Carrara

Carrara, the small town at the base of the Apuan Alps in Italy, is the center for the world’s finest marble. The Romans first quarried this fine white stone 2000 years ago to create and build their Empire. The sculptural masterpieces of Michelangelo were brought to life from Carrara marble.

This series of images is of the painted female nude, as if honed from this storied marble. From bas-relief to a finely sculpted free-standing figure, and then transformed as the emergence of the fully formed woman, it speaks to the empowerment of each to express their realization, struggle, and release to be their own individual spirit and being.
